Shahidi Diwas Celebrated with Great Enthusiasm!

Shahidi Diwas to commemorate the martyrdom of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and his comrades was celebrated on 23 March 2009 by organizing a demonstration from Sanjay Colony to Harkesh Nagar  in the Okhla industrial area of Delhi. The demonstration was orgainsed by Hind Naujawan Ekta Sabha.

Youth and children participated in huge numbers, shouting slogans inspired by Bhagat Singh and his comrades like Inquilab Zindabad! (Long Live Revolution!), Punjiwad ho barbad! (Down With Capitalism!), Rajkiya aatankwad murdabad! (Down With State Terrorism!) and many more. They also distributed leaflets about the importance of the role of the youth and people in taking political power into their own hands and changing the fate of the country.

On its way the demonstration stopped at various chaurahas crowded by working people. Activists from Hind Naujawan Ekta Sabha and various organisations spoke on the significance of Bhagat Singh's contribution to the freedom struggle and people rights. The demonstration culminated in a rally at Prem Nagar Chauk, where a large number of people gathered to listen to songs and speeches by the participants.

Dharmendra of Hind Naujavan Ekta Sabha (HNES) read out the leaflet brought out on the occasion and explained the purpose of the whole event. Comrade Jagdish from New Delhi General Mazdoor Front gave a brief speech on the importance of Shahidi Diwas.

Addressing the gathering, the representative from Communist Ghadar party of India (CGPI) said that Bhagat Singh and his comrades used every opportunity and platform, whether it be jail or the courtroom, to expose the real nature of the colonial rule and organised the youth to overthrow it. Today the challenge facing the youth is to establish the rule of workers and peasants, which will end all kinds of exploitation and oppression. Appreciating the efforts of the youth activists in organising lok raj samitis in various working class localities, he emphasised their importance as organs of people's power at the base of society.

Bijju Nayak, Secretary of Lok Raj Sangathan, Delhi said that when the workers can produce everything from a needle to an aircraft, they can also rule. The workers must have confidence that they can lead all the oppressed to overthrow the present system and establish the rule of workers and peasants. He appealed to the youth they should build their own samitis, field their own candidates in the elections and take forward the struggle to establish a new political process in which political power will actually be in the hands of the working and oppressed masses.
