LRS has gained from the participation of several well known personalities. TS Sankaran, known for his work in defence of the rights of workers, led the CPE and the Lok Raj Sangathan from the front for nearly a whole decade from its founding. Justice V. R. Krishna Iyer and Professor Rajni Kothari have both left their indelible mark on the work of Lok Raj Sangathan. Justice Hosbet Suresh, renowned rights activist, played and continues to play a stellar role, and has been the President of the LRS since January 2003. Justice Ajit Singh Bains, a rights activist who was arrested under TADA and incarcerated in Chandigarh Jail at the age of nearly 80, was, and remains an active leader of the LRS. Prof Dalip Singh, teacher of history at Khalsa College, Mumbai was incarcerated for the plot to assassinate former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He has been the staunchest fighter for the dismantling of all instruments of state terrorism in India and the world. Shri Kuldip Nayyar has upheld the rights of the people and the cause of South Asian unity and is one of the most respected journalists of our country. Prakash Rao is the spokesperson of the Communist Ghadar Party of India.
Membership of the Lok Raj Sangathan is open to all Indian citizens and persons of Indian origin who wish to participate in and contribute to the program for bringing the people to power. |
